Justice for All/ Justicia Para Todos is a 2024 Ballot Initiative that is striving to provide universal representation for all indigent families in Pima County. In 2019, 22,677 cases went through Tucson Immigration court- 18,059 stood alone without representation. Without an attorney, folks only stand a 3% chance of winning their case. When there is an attorney present, the chances go up to 62%.
Pima County residents facing removal or deportation have a constitutional right to an attorney. However, if they cannot afford one, NO attorney is provided for them. Fighting the Federal Government alone their rights can be violated. This causes injustices – unwarranted family separations, orphaned children, employers without employees, fear of law enforcement, loss of taxpaying residents, and poverty. This Initiative would provide legal representation to indigent families in removal/ deportation proceedings, using sliding scale fees, grant funding, and funds available to the county to protect due process and fundamental rights, fight poverty, and protect the health, safety and welfare of our residents.
Our campaign needs 90,000 signatures by July 2, 2024 to be on the November 2024 ballot. Due to COVID, we need to take advantage of every opportunity and start collections TODAY.
