Dear Organizational Leader,
What big changes happened in 2016! Most of our members and friends in the social justice, labor, environmental, and peace movement say that the stakes are rising quickly and the demands facing their groups are growing.
The answer to our shared challenges is in building strong local communities capable of mobilizing for whatever actions are needed. Tucson is home to many wonderful activists who are aligned with various organizations like yours. Getting all these folks together is the goal of the Tucson Peace Center (TPC).
Our 35th annual Peace Fair & Music Festival is coming up Saturday, 2/25/17, 11:00am-4:00pm, in Armory Park and it’s time for your group to reserve your spot. This year’s theme is: Demilitarization. Note the new location and plan to participate.
A registration form for your group to reserve a spot at the Peace Fair and an envelope to mail it back are enclosed. If you intend to sell items at the Fair, please let our coordinator know (Mary – mdecamp1958@gmail.com or 520 302-3447). The City of Tucson requires a vendor’s permit if your group sells anything, and the City will not issue a permit if your group’s name is not submitted by TPC. The good news is a permit is free for non-profit organizations this year; for-profit groups pay $60 for a permit. Food vendors must be cleared in advance; don’t plan to offer edibles unless you’ve coordinated with TPC.
Organizations bring pop-up canopies, tables, chairs, and promotional materials. Rather than using stakes to secure the canopies (which could potentially pierce utility lines), the City requires weighting them down without drilling into the ground. Empty plastic milk jugs, which can be filled with water when you get to Armory Park, work well; some groups bring cement blocks or rocks.
Thanks for your consideration and support. Even if your group cannot attend this year, please renew your organization’s TPC membership ($20) so we can continue working for peace on your behalf. TPC member groups’ events get priority listing in our monthly printed calendar and are eligible to borrow TPC’s portable public address system.
If you have any questions, please contact Mary DeCamp, coordinator, by email at mdecamp1958@gmail.com or by phone at (520) 302-3447.
