[9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 9/20/14 & 09/21/14 – 9:30 am to 5 pm. Multi-Generational Introduction to Kingian Nonviolence.
Location: City High School, 48 E Pennington Street.
The Youth Team of the Nonviolence Legacy Project takes the lead in presenting this 2-day introduction to the principles and practices of Kingian Nonviolence. Learn ways to deal with anger, reduce violence, resolve conflicts, and bring about positive change in your life and community.

12 pm — asking everyone to take a minute of silence to contemplate Peace, no matter where you are. This silence is happening all over the world. This helps each of us to think and stop from saying a hurtful word to even killing someone.

Creating a Culture of Peace, Tucson’s Pathways to Peace, 9/21/14, UN International Day of Peace

Martha Dominguez of Creating A Culture of Peace (CCP) is setting up a table. What can YOU do to build PEACE in your community, home and life? Join us to share snacks and drinks and to share ideas for peace on this special world peace day. We ask that you participate wherever you are at 12 for a minute of silence to remember those that have died or been hurt by violence and to center our energies for peace on Peace day this moment is being held in all time zone in the world.

1a. Dreamer Symposium, Tucson’s Pathways to Peace, 9/21/14, UN International Day of Peace

September 21, 2014 1 pm – 1:50 pm

The 10 minute trailer of the Pachamama Alliance Awakening the Dreamer Symposium, to inform and inspire bold action in concert with others to co-create an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on Earth. Discussion will reference the UN’s Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People and demonstrate how our work is rooted in cultural wisdom and the indigenous world view as a model for social and environmental justice. This workshop is designed to spark a sense of urgency as well as a profound sense of empowerment.

Sheena Brown Ph.D MPH, Happiness is an Inside Job. Happiness is becoming the new buzzword, but what does happiness mean for you? Where do you find it, and how do you maintain it? Can a lack of happiness impact health and wellbeing? Come and join me for an interactive discussion on authentic happiness, from the inside out. What is it? How can we achieve it? Find ways to become actively engaged in your life, (re)discover your passion and driving force, recognize your strengths, and the components of your life that provide meaning and purpose. By learning how to respond, rather than react to life’s challenges we can simultaneously impact our Happiness, Health and Wellbeing. Interactive activities will include mindful meditation, and low-impact yoga.

Martha Dominguez, facilitator with Creating a Culture of Peace (CCP) a nationwide program for community-based peacemaking. CCP provides a holistic and practical foundation in spiritually grounded active nonviolence. At (CCP) participants come to recognize their own power for making personal and social changes without violence and improve their skills for respectful engagement with others in their daily lives.

3a. The Courage for Peace, Tucson’s Pathways to Peace, 9/21/14, UN International Day of Peace

The Courage for Peace: Stories from Community Conversations continues from the 9/11 conversations from 8/30/14. Peace isn’t easy, nor is it for those who are unable to act courageously. The Sikh scriptures say that we can follow a true path to courage, but we must put aside regard for public opinion. Please join us for sharing of personal stories and insights. We will use a circles process so that all will have a chance to speak after a presentation from some speakers. Workshop limited to 15 participants to assure that all can speak even if just briefly.

Learn new ways of communicating without judgment, blame or criticism, creating compassionate connections with family, friends, and others.This interactive presentation will introduce you to a simple approach to more powerful and compassionate relationships through Nonviolent Communication, based on the work of Marshall Rosenberg.
