“Whenever I become discouraged…I lift my spirits by remembering the artists are on our side. Poets and painters. Singers and musicians. Novelists and playwrights. Who speak to the world in a way that is impervious to assault because they wage a battle for justice in a sphere which is unreachable by the dullness of ordinary discourse.” Howard Zinn
“Politics is useless if it does nothing to enhance the beauty of our lives” In the face of increasingly violent and repressive capitalist aggression on many fronts and daily tragedies it is difficult to avoid falling into despair. It is critical to build a mass culture of resistance that illuminates the rich history and diversity of our working-class movement. This class will focus on the role cultural workers play in witnessing, documenting, inspiring collective action, building our movement, and helping us to imagine the vibrant, joyful world we can achieve.
