SUMMARY:Southern Arizona Senior Pride: Ethical Will Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ethical Will Workshop\nApril 23rd\, 1:30 – 3:30 PM\nCentral Tucson location provided after registration.\nhttps://soazseniorpride.org/event/ethical-will-workshop-2026-04-23/ \nAn ethical will is a non-legal\, personal document or message—often called a legacy letter—used to pass down values\, life lessons\, stories\, and blessings to family and friends. Unlike a legal will that distributes assets\, an ethical will acts as a lasting\, intangible legacy\, sharing wisdom\, and expressing love to future generations. \nAccording to Rabbi Stephanie Aaron of Congregation Chaverim\, “Writing an ethical will is an opportunity to examine our lives\, to notice what we hold as precious and meaningful at the core of our beings. What are the values that we have treasured in our living? Who are the people who have shown us the way? How have our mistakes shaped and enlightened us? What are the great questions we have asked in our lives? What are the answers we’ve discovered? Writing an ethical will is a process of life review\, celebration\, and legacy.” \nEthical wills began as a Jewish oral tradition and have been part of Jewish culture for centuries. The ethical will process is a different experience\, undertaken with a different goal in mind\, than developing a medical directive and living wills\, with which people are typically more familiar. \nFacilitated by Rabbi Aaron\, this workshop will position the writing of an ethical will as an integral part of the end-of-life care period. Whether sudden or expected\, the end of a person’s life has an obvious impact on the dying person\, his or her family system\, and the family legacy. The end of life touches the deepest and most dearly held fears\, values\, and beliefs of individuals and families. \nToday\, ethical wills\, also called legacy letters\, are written by individuals of every gender\, age\, ethnicity\, faith tradition\, economic circumstance\, and education level. \nAll LGBTQI+ older adults are invited to join us for this special workshop. Learn about ethical wills and draft your own.
