SUMMARY:St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church Creating a Culture of Peace Training
DESCRIPTION:St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church\nWill be hosting Creating a Culture of Peace training\nFebruary 27 – March 1 \nCreating a Culture of Peace (CCP) is a nationwide program for community-based peacemaking. The innovative design of CCP provides a holistic and practical foundation in spiritually-grounded active nonviolence. Participants come to recognize their own power for making personal and social changes without violence and improve their skills for respectful engagement with opponents\, instead of confrontation that polarizes and demonizes. \nThe focus of the training is to help individuals and small groups to plan and carry out non violent social actions to strengthen their communities. \nUnlike trainings that focus only on anti-war protest\, CCP training is an incubator for participants to raise issues which most concern them–group controversy and conflict\, neighborhood violence\, domestic violence\, climate change\, war and militarism\, discrimination\, homelessness\, peace education\, and health care. The training is highly participatory and does not depend on reading a book or lectures. It draws upon the wisdom\, experience and talents of all the participants and on the skills and knowledge of trainers. Mutual learning occurs through storytelling\, meditation\, small group sharing\, brainstorming\, role plays\, thought-provoking exercises\, music and movement. CCP offers training on nonviolence principles\, analysis of social change and community-building\, skills for peacemaking\, and resources. Every group chooses\, and plans concrete projects for change. \nWe ask participants to commit to attending the full three day\, 20 hour training.\nThe schedule is 9 AM to 8 PM on Friday and Saturday\, with breaks for meals\, and 1PM to 5 PM on Sunday. \nLunch and dinner will be provided on Friday and Saturday\, and lunch on Sunday. The cost to attend is $120.00 and includes 5 meals and materials. If the cost to attend is a barrier please contact Daniel Petersen-Snyder at (917) 597-7203 or dpetersensnyder@gmail.com. \nIf you are interested in attending or have questions please contact Daniel Petersen-Snyder at dpetersensnyder@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Creating a Culture of Peace Facilitator Training Sponsored by St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church
DESCRIPTION:St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Tucson Arizona will sponsor Creating a Culture of Peace facilitator training on March 6-8\, 2026. This training will be facilitated by Barbara Gessner and Daniel Petersen-Snyder. Anyone who has taken the Creating a Culture of Peace basic training and wants to help others improve their ability to make nonviolent personal and social change may register to take part in this training. \nThe training reviews the content of the basic training; particularly how each module builds on the previous ones and informs those that follow leading to the development of concrete actionable plans to bring about change. Emphases is placed on the process which calls for a wide range of skills in order to utilize the many teaching tools used in the training. However\, most of the focus of training is on enhancing the participants facilitation skills. \nEmphasis is placed on the collaborative nature of the training and on creating a safe learning environment. Skills explored include understanding and handling group dynamics\, noticing – both individual responses to events and ideas\, group interactions and exchanges\, and mood or “tone”- eliciting input through open ended questions\, follow up\, seeking clarification and active listening. \nThe opening\, each module\, and closing are all reviewed through the lens of skill development. Participants are asked to imagine the kind of facilitator that they want to be and to revisit that and reflect on it periodically. \nHow modules are introduced\, presented and reviewed is addressed from selection of openings\, presentation of content\, eliciting input and summing up. Participants plan and present one of the modules. Finally\, there is group review of the process of this training\, another opportunity to reflect on growth that has occurred and growth that is planned for\, and individual meetings with the facilitators. \nAs with the basic training the process is engaging\, collaborative and fun. You will work and learn together with other participants\, develop relationships\, and make friends. \nWe ask that you commit to the entire process and to valuing and practicing active nonviolence. There will be a small fee for the training to cover meals and materials. Each participant will receive a Facilitators Manual and supporting material. \n \nThe training is sponsored by St. Michael and All Angels church in Tucson as part of our commitment to our community and social justice and is open to all. \nFor information please contact Daniel Petersen-Snyder a dpetersensnyder@gmail.com
