SUMMARY:Steadfast Non-Violent Witness: Stories from the West Bank
DESCRIPTION:Presentation by Delle McCormick about a recent trip to the West Bank during the war with Iran. Reverend McCormick says: \nThis year\, because flights to Tel Aviv were canceled\, I flew into Jordan and crossed the border into the West Bank by land\, which was an experience in and of itself. Most of my time in the West Bank was spent volunteering at the 100-acre Tent of Nations farm and orchard\, owned precariously by the Nassar family. Because of the war with Iran\, most volunteers who had also planned to be there had canceled\, so we were a small international crew. For the first week\, we were only five women in our 60s and 70s! While the US and Israel-backed war with Iran dominated headlines and public debate\, Zionist extremist violence dramatically increased\, with a new Settler outpost being built right on the property line of the farm\, and two Settler watchtowers with bright lights\, cameras\, and listening devices were directed at the farm 24/7. As you might imagine\, while the Nassar family’s commitment is to non-violent steadfast witness\, the farm and family are surrounded by the probability of violence from several directions. \nPlease join me to learn more on May 19\, from 6-7:30 in MacBride Hall at Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. I will also bring beautiful olive wood ornaments\, candle holders\, and earrings that you can purchase for a small price. All proceeds support those I met who are struggling fiercely to survive under increasing state-sponsored and religious extremist violence. \nPlease feel free to share this invitation with others who might be interested and RSVP to revdellemc@gmail.com.

She broke onto the national writing scene in 1981 with the landmark text\, This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color\, co-edited with another famed Chicana writer\, Gloria Anzaldúa. The text was adopted quickly onto reading lists of Ethnic and Gender Studies programs at universities and colleges across the country and has entered the canon. Her work is also widely used in English\, Writing\, Theater\, and Humanities programs. She has published numerous books and collections\, for which she has won many prestigious awards (please see bios\, below)\, all of which makes her one of the most influential Chicana thinkers and cultural workers today. SUMMARY:The Hard-Sci SF Zoom Group proudly presents Feminist SETI Scientist/Artist Bettina Forget
DESCRIPTION:The Hard-Sci SF Zoom Group proudly presents Feminist SETI Scientist/Artist Bettina Forget\non Saturday\, April 4\, @ 9AM \nTITLE: “Are we alone in the Universe? Transforming Data into Experiences” \nDESCRIPTION: Bettina Forget’s creative practice transgresses the boundaries of art and science. Series such as Women With Impact\, Exoplanet Zoo\, and Artifacts from the Future draw inspiration from scientific literature and data\, conversations with researchers\, and her passion for amateur astronomy. Her work with the SETI Institute and her academic research engage with the question\, “Are we alone in the universe?” by challenging anthropocentric perspectives through imagination\, scientific inquiry\, and creative expression. This convergence of disciplines transforms data into experiences and invites deeper reflection on humanity’s place in the cosmos. \nPROFILE: Bettina Forget is the Director of the SETI Institute’s Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program. Her creative practice and academic research examine the re-contextualization of art and science\, and how transdisciplinary education may disrupt gender stereotypes. Bettina works with traditional as well as new media arts\, focusing on astrobiology\, exoplanet research\, sci-fi\, and feminism. Her work has been exhibited internationally including ISEA (Barcelona)\, CYFEST-13 (Saint Petersburg)\, and the Planetarium Rio Tinto Alcan (Montréal)\, and will be presented in 2026 at the Exploratorium (San Francisco) and the Wende Museum (Los Angeles). \nRegister in advance for this meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/3MW8AMnSSjWWK5lzg27tXQ\nNo password

SUMMARY:Nico Lang Will Read from American Teenager\, Which Documents Lives of Trans Kids
DESCRIPTION:Author Reading and Q & A with Nico Lang\non American Teenager: How Trans Kids Are Surviving Hate and Finding Joy in a Turbulent Era\nMarch 14\, 3:00 p.m.\nRincon Congregational UCC\, 122 N. Craycroft Rd. \nNote from the Author: “My name is Nico Lang\, and I’m a longtime LGBTQ+ journalist\, as well as the author of the recently released book\, American Teenager\, which documents the lives of trans kids and their loved ones in seven different states. My goal was to speak back to extreme anti-trans rhetoric about youth by showing trans young people as they actually are: powerfully human. I’ve been touring the country for the past 17 months to bring their voices and stories to as many communities as possible\, and as part of that work\, I’ll be in Tucson on Saturday\, March 14 — for a reading/Q&A at Rincon UCC. The event should start around 3:00pm.”

I don’t want anything lower than I am. I am low enough already. I want to rise and to push everything up with me as I go…”\nEsperanza Quintero from the film Salt of the Earth \nOn March 8\, 1857\, women and girls\, many of them immigrants\, in the textile and garment industry in New York City went on strike\, marching to protest low wages\, 12-hour days\, and inhumane and unsafe working conditions. Although the police broke up the demonstration\, the event is recognized as a pivotal\, early strike by women; helping to inspire decades later\, the celebration of International Women’s Day\, originally known as International Working Women’s Day. International Women’s Day—celebrated worldwide—began as a holiday to recognize the contributions of working women in the fight for organized labor as well as the fight against child labor\, suffrage\, and the fight for equal pay. March 1974 marked the formation and founding of the Coalition of Labor Union Women(CLUW). Formed in Chicago by 3000+ members from 58 unions to address issues like pay equity\, sexual harassment\, childcare and family leave\, as well as sexism and discrimination within the unions and labor movement itself\, CLUW\, and women leaders in the labor movement\, continue to play a pivotal role in the struggle for gender equality. Join us for a panel discussion with Pima Area Labor Federation Chair Cecelia Valdez\, Jobs with Justice Organizer Martha Reyes\, and CLUW Vice President Vonda Wilkins on the pivotal and critical role women labor leaders and rank and file continue to play in the struggle for workers’ rights\, women’s equality\, and building the labor movement.\n——————————————————————————————\nFor more information about Salt of the Earth Labor College please email to SELC@webtv.net or call (520)235-0694 \nWe will be depending on your generosity to keep us going.
