SUMMARY:SPEAK and Revolutionary Grounds Books & Coffee present the 1990 March for the Animals Chronicle
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, 6/10/26 5 P.M. – 7 P.M. \nEvent/issue: 36th anniversary presentation: 1990 March for the Animals Chronicle\nLocation: Revolutionary Grounds Books & Coffee\nAddress: 4675 E. Speedway Blvd. (east side of Sprouts plaza; shop faces Swan Rd.)\nFilm run-time: 35 minutes\nShowtimes: First show at 5:15 P.M. / Second show at 6:15 P.M.\nSpecial notes: No entry fee! \nAdditional film background & event details:\nHistory was made on Sunday\, June 10\, 1990. On this day\, tens of thousands of compassionate people from throughout the United States assembled in our nation’s capitol to send a message to Congress: “We stand together to ensure justice for animals. Through our collective efforts\, the voice of all other animals finally will be heard.” \nExperience this historic day by way of this non-graphic\, good-for-all-ages documentary of the first-ever march for animal rights in the United States. This major event saw 50\,000 activists converge on Washington\, DC to announce the inception and the strength of the animal rights movement. The 1990 March for the Animals Chronicle is an extremely motivational film that features commentary from many luminaries who have defined our mission: Gary Francione\, Tom Regan\, Cleveland Amory\, Ingrid Newkirk\, Peter Singer\, Neal Barnard\, and others. Several supportive celebrities were also on hand at the march\, such as Berke Breathed\, Belinda Carlisle\, Laura Nyro\, and Grace Slick\, to name a few. Witness activists from every state in the nation\, with each state’s contingency identified and preceded by a state-specific banner. The camera work on this film was phenomenal\, with photographers and interviewers following along the march route so as to provide a close-up perspective and a real-time experience that’s unforgettable. \nSoon after the 1990 march\, the week of June 10th was declared Animal Rights Awareness Week. Tucson’s 36th-anniversary celebration of the historic march will feature this vintage 35-minute documentary that is not available anywhere; not even on the internet. Our special event is open to the public and there is no entry fee. Revolutionary Grounds Books & Coffee will have food and drink available for purchase. Two showings are scheduled: one at 5:15 and another at 6:15. \nContact phone # for activity date: 520-981-7416 (no text)
