This is catastrophic for wildlife\, who for survival cannot be impeded from migration\, but allowed to move north and south across their habitats freely as they have for millennia. \nSlow-growing\, mature oak trees are being bulldozed and killed without a thought. Irreplaceable Pleistocene-era aquifers\, in a time of unprecedented drought and climate change\, are being drained for cement. Cross-border watersheds are being bulldozed and blocked with immense boulders sourced from blasting our own Coronado Memorial National Park. \nCoils of razor-sharp concertina wire are being laid out ahead of construction\, a dangerous menace to innocent wildlife going about their business of survival in a cruel desert. They treat our lands like a war zone\, but one in which there are few if any combatants. What are the thousands of new border agents doing to police this border? Do we need the absurd extra expense of razor wire? \nNow\, other places we hold dear are being assaulted: Big Bend\, Rio Grande River Valley\, La Lomita\, National Butterfly Center\, Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge\, Jacumba Wilderness\, Cerro Cuchumá— sacred places thoughtlessly targeted in this endless fantasy our government falsely claims is essential to our security. \nWe all knew this was coming when we planned our first Bi-National Border Happening on May 31\, 2025\, a success. The date of this next “happening” lands on National Endangered Species Day\, also under attack by the absurd and reckless actions of a rogue administration hungry for profit and power. \nYou all know what’s happening. We need to summon our collective voices and strengths—do everything we can with everything we have—to fight like hell! This Wall must come down in our lifetimes or we’ll bear the consequences of ECOCIDE! \nWe will be broadcasting live. DESCRIPTION:* Peace Vigil at Raytheon\, Nogales Highway at Hermans Road\nJune 9\, Tuesday\, 7:00 – 8:00 a.m.   \nJoin the Raytheon Peacemakers as we demonstrate against war and those who profit from it.\nSurvival demands better ideas\, not better weapons.  \nIn April\, 2020 the Pentagon named Raytheon in Tucson as the sole-source contractor for a multi-billion dollar program to develop and produce the Long-Range Stand-Off (LRSO) missile\, an all-new nuclear-armed cruise missile to be launched from the wings of warplanes. Production of this missile violates the spirit and letter of the 2017 United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons\, which entered into force in January 2021.  \nThe wars in Ukraine\, Palestine and elsewhere have brought millions of dollars in new contracts for Raytheon weapons. Weapons and endless war are Raytheon’s business model. It’s commerce\, not defense\, and all about profit\, not security.  \nNow simply called Raytheon\, it is the most profitable division of the corporate war profiteer Raytheon Technologies\, RTX.com.  With its top management and largest factory in Tucson\, Raytheon employs more than 13\,000 of our Southern Arizona friends and neighbors.  \nFor more than two decades\, Raytheon has hailed Tucson as the Missile Technology Capital of the World – a center for lethal innovation and cutting-edge killing for profit. Park on the gravel off northbound Nogales Highway\, between railroad tracks and highway\, (closer to the highway than the railroad tracks) north of Hermans Road.  \nSAFETY \nThere are many cars turning off Old Nogales Highway from both directions onto Herman’s Road to go to work\, some at a pretty fast clip. People will need to carefully cross Hermans Road with the crossing light at the crosswalk in order to vigil on the south side of Hermans Road. \nAdditionally\, we should take care to not stand in the road\, and to keep our signs\, banners and flags from hanging over the road\, so we don’t create any danger to ourselves or others.
